On Vigilance Day, the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) Puducherry campus organized a special lecture on cybersecurity and vigilance. Dr. S. Bascarane, Superintendent of Police (Cyber/Wireless/E-Governance/Vigilance & Anti-Corruption) and Web Officer for Puducherry, led the session. Dr. Bascarane, a renowned cybersecurity expert, addressed pressing concerns about emerging cybercrimes, especially those targeting vulnerable individuals and institutions.
The session explored the evolving landscape of "new generation" cybercrimes, such as phishing, ransomware attacks, identity theft, and social engineering tactics. Dr. Bascarane highlighted the importance of vigilance and digital awareness in combating these threats, emphasizing that constant adaptation and education are crucial in preventing cyber incidents. He shared practical advice on safeguarding personal information, detecting suspicious online activities, and strengthening digital infrastructure.
