Today, the students of the Postgraduate Diploma in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics (PGDCSDF) and Postgraduate Diploma in Security and Corporate Intelligence Management (PGDSCIM) from the RRU Puducherry campus had the opportunity to visit the Cyber Crime Cell Police Station. This visit offered valuable insights into the operations of the cyber crime department, focusing on real-world practices in solving cyber-related offenses.
The students were introduced to the inner workings of the cyber crime cell, where they explored key areas, including the department’s server room. The officers explained in detail the steps involved in reporting a cybercrime via the Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, a crucial tool that helps victims of cybercrimes file their complaints seamlessly.
During the session, officers walked the students through various types of cyber crimes occurring in society today, ranging from phishing attacks and identity theft to more sophisticated cyber frauds and hacking incidents. They demonstrated how these crimes are handled and solved, providing examples of real cases they have worked on.
One of the highlights of the visit was the exploration of cyber forensic tools used in investigations. The students learned how advanced software and analytical tools help law enforcement gather digital evidence, trace criminal activities, and solve complex cyber cases. The practical demonstration of these tools gave the students a firsthand understanding of how technology is leveraged to fight cybercrime. This educational visit offered an enriching experience, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, and inspiring the next generation of cybersecurity experts to contribute effectively to the safety and security of our digital society.
