RRU Puducherry Campus, successfully hosted the Certified Emergency Responder Programme from 12th to 14th July, 2025, an intensive 3-day training initiative designed to build quick-thinking, community-ready responders. With the theme “Certified to Save Trained to Lead Built to Respond!”, the programme brought together an exceptional panel of trainers from diverse fields.This three-day intensive course was designed to equip students with essential life-saving skills, hands-on emergency response training, and the ability to lead in times of crisis, a true step toward building a safer, more resilient community.
The program was inaugurated with a warm welcome by Mr. Arsh, Campus Director (I/c), and attended by an esteemed panel of experts from diverse domain such as :

· Mr. Damodaran, Regional Security Manager, APAC, COLT Technology Services
· Mr. Poovai Kannan, Director, Background Verification and Intelligence Service, P4S Pvt. Ltd.
Day 1: Basic Life safety & First Aid Techniques
The first day of the program was led by Mr. Parthasarathy and his team from Raksha, the opening day emphasized Basic Life Safety & First Aid Techniques, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and Emergency transportation methods where participants were given hands-on training. The session also covered emergency transportation methods and various rescue techniques to be used in real-time crisis situations. Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute (IGMCRI) has also extended its support by providing two ambulance one with basic life support (BLS) and the other with advanced life support (ALS) to demonstrate real-world emergency response operations.
Day 2: Basic Fire Safety, Cyber Awareness & Tactical Defense
The second day focused on fire safety drills, safe evacuation procedures, and the formation and functioning Emergency Response Teams (ERTs). Participants also underwent practical training in using fire extinguishers, identifying hazards, and safely evacuating buildings during fire-related emergencies.A afternoon session was on Cybersecurity and Social Media Alertnness by Mr. Jeyanth Shekhar,Senior Associate,Cognizant stressing the importance of digital hygiene in modern emergency scenarios.
The day continued with intense session on Krav Maga, a tactical self-defense system, conducted by Mr. Mithun Mylesh, Founder and Director of Survival Defense and Fitness.training. It enhanced the participants self-defense and situational control abilities, followed by a live session on Drone Operations for Emergency Surveillance led by Mr. Vetrivel, Key Accountable Manager of Ariista Academy LLP, who along with his team showcased how drones and its applications can assist in emergency monitoring and response.
Day 3: Assessments & Certifications
The final day involved a comprehensive assessments to evaluate each participant’s readiness. Out of the cohort,based on performance and skill demonstration ,29 candidates were certified as Emergency Response Team Leaders, receiving specialized training in Emergency Leadership, Situational Awareness, and Personal Safety delivered by Mr. John Paul Manickam. A particularrly engaging session was featured by Dr. Bubesh Gupta, who provided a valuable insight on snakebite first aid and gave a live demonstration of snake-handling techniques, an essential skill in rural rescue missions.
The program concluded on 14th July with a grand valedictory ceremony attended by DIG Mr. Dasilla from the Indian Coast Guard and Dr. Udayashankar, Director, IGMCRI, as Guests of Honour. Mr. Arsh delivered the welcome speech at the closing ceremony. The first batch of certified ERT leaders from RRU Puducherry were awarded ERT badges and certificates, honoring their commitment to public safety and successful completion of the program. A heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. John Paul Manickam, appreciating the joint effort of faculty, experts, and students in making the event a resounding success.
This training marks just the beginning of a long-term vision where students, police personnel, and citizens of the Puducherry region will receive professional emergency response training in future batches. The ultimate goal is to build a certified, region-wide emergency responder's team capable of enhancing preparedness and ensuring swift, effective action during disasters and critical emergencies.
