RRU Puducherry Faculty and students from the Master of Criminology programme actively participated in the International Conference titled “Justice, Protection & Empowerment: Global, Regional and Local Responses to Crime” held on 02–03 March 2026 at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, which was co-organized with the Indian Society of Criminology (Tirunelveli Branch). The conference served as an important platform for academicians, researchers, policy makers, law enforcement professionals, and students to engage in meaningful discussions on emerging crime trends and justice responses.
Dr. Makesh Krishna, Assistant Professor (Criminology) at RRU-Puducherry, served as a Co-Chair for the conference. The sessions highlighted how global frameworks and local initiatives can work together to address complex crime challenges effectively.
The following students from the Master of Criminology presented their research papers as follows:
- Ms. Sejal P Sajeev, and Ms. Vaishna RS on "Effective Policy and community action in reducing beach litter in Puducherry- A blue criminology Approach".
- Ms. Sarmiga E on "Digital Intimacy and Gendered Harm: An Empirical Investigation of Violence against Women in Online Dating Platforms".
Objectives of the Conference
- To promote global dialogue among academicians, policymakers, practitioners, and civil society on issues of justice, protection, and empowerment.
- To examine global, regional, and local responses to crime and their effectiveness in promoting safety, equity, and social justice.
- To identify challenges and share best practices in preventing crimes such as cybercrime, human trafficking, and gender-based violence.
- To strengthen victim-centered, rights-based approaches that empower vulnerable and marginalized groups through inclusive justice systems.
- To encourage research, innovation, and collaboration for evidence-based crime prevention and protection strategies.
- To develop actionable policy recommendations to improve justice delivery, promote human rights, and ensure sustainable crime prevention frameworks.
Overall, the conference offered a valuable learning experience and strengthened academic collaboration. The active involvement of Rashtriya Raksha University students and faculty reflects the university’s commitment to promoting research and knowledge sharing in the field of criminology and criminal justice.
