The NSS Unit of RRU, Puducherry Campus organized a Personal and Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Programme exclusively for female students on 19 March 2026 at the RRU Auditorium. The session was conducted by Mrs. Bhoomika Shah, Consultant at AIC RRU, who spoke about the importance of personal hygiene and menstrual health. She explained the biological aspects of menstruation, the need to maintain hygiene during menstrual cycles, the safe use of menstrual products, and proper disposal methods.
Objectives of the Programme
- To educate female students on the importance of personal hygiene
- To create awareness about menstrual health and hygiene
management
- To address myths, taboos, and misconceptions related to
menstruation
- To promote safe and hygienic practices during menstrual cycles
- To encourage open discussions on women’s health issues
The programme also focused on breaking myths and social stigma related to menstruation. Students were encouraged to speak openly about menstrual health and spread awareness among others. An interactive question-and-answer session was held, during which students clarified their doubts about menstrual hygiene and health. Female students actively participated in the programme, while NSS volunteers ensured the smooth conduct of the event.
The programme created awareness, promoted healthy practices, and empowered students with confidence and knowledge regarding personal and menstrual hygiene. It was a
meaningful initiative toward promoting women’s health and well-being. The
session successfully addressed important issues related to hygiene and created
awareness among students in a supportive environment. Such programmes play a vital role in
empowering young women with knowledge, confidence, and the ability to make
informed health decisions.
