The BA Criminology and Police Administration (BACPA) students of RRU Puducherry, participated in a "Basic Rifle Shooting Training Programme" conducted at the Vajra Shooting Academy Range, Reddiyarpalayam, Puducherry, from 27 April 2026 to 02 May 2026. The six-day training programme was organized to provide students with practical exposure to firearm handling, weapon safety, and shooting techniques relevant to the fields of criminology, policing, and security studies.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Mr. P.G. Kishore Kumar, President of Vajra Academy of Shooting Sports. A total of 29 students and 2 faculty members participated in the training sessions. To ensure effective learning and safety, students were divided into two batches each day.
The training sessions focused on key aspects of rifle shooting, including:- Weapon safety and handling procedures
- Shooting posture and aiming techniques
- Trigger control and firing discipline
- Range safety protocols and supervision
- Practical live shooting sessions
The instructors demonstrated proper firearm handling and emphasized discipline and responsible weapon use before students were allowed to participate in supervised live-shooting practice. The hands-on experience helped students improve concentration, coordination, confidence, and situational awareness.
Objectives of the Event
- To provide students with basic rifle shooting exposure and practical firearm handling experience.
- To educate students on weapon safety measures, discipline, and responsible handling procedures.
- To enhance students' understanding of shooting techniques and security-related training relevant to criminology and police administration.
On the final day of the programme, a written assessment was conducted to evaluate the participants’ understanding of firearm safety, shooting techniques, and range discipline. Following the successful completion of the training, certificates were distributed to all participants in recognition of their achievement.
