Guest Lecture on Crowd Control tactics: Understanding Crowd psychology, Effective tools and Techniques

On August 29th, 2024, the RRU Puducherry campus hosted a guest lecture titled "Crowd Control Tactics: Understanding Crowd Psychology, Effective Tools, and Techniques." The lecture was led by Mr. Avinash, an Assistant Professor from D.G. Vaishnav College, Chennai, who provided students with a comprehensive understanding of crowd control, a crucial aspect of law enforcement and public safety. Mr. Avinash discussed crowd psychology, its behavior under various circumstances, and the psychological triggers that can lead to crowd agitation or cooperation. He introduced several effective tools and techniques used in crowd control, such as non-lethal measures like tear gas, water cannons, and rubber bullets, and the importance of using these tools judiciously to avoid unnecessary harm while maintaining public order. He also covered advanced crowd management strategies, such as the deployment of barriers, the use of force multipliers, and the strategic positioning of personnel to guide crowd movement and prevent stampedes.

One of the highlights of the lecture was the hands-on training component, where students participated in mapping exercises to plan and implement crowd control strategies for hypothetical scenarios. The lecture concluded with a Q&A session, where students could clarify doubts and discuss challenges they might face in implementing these techniques. Mr. Avinash's insights were insightful, drawing from his extensive experience in criminology and public safety.
