On the tenth day, Mission Karmayogi started
Professor (Dr) Anu Chandran of Pondicherry University spoke about how tourism policing helps keep local populations safe and peaceful. He emphasized the significance of controlling buildings in sensitive regions, reducing drug misuse, and guaranteeing the safety of women when they travel. The three B's of tourism—booking, belongings, and behavior—and the necessity of appropriate travel schedules, security measures, life jackets, and safety features were also covered. In addition, he urged for proper waste management techniques and addressed concerns including trafficking, managing stray dogs, stalking, and privacy infringement. As a potential future instrument to improve tourism security, he proposed introducing Robocop technology. To create a safe, secure, and sustainable tourist environment, Dr. Chandran emphasized in her closing remarks the necessity of specialized training programs for tourism police, the facilitation of visa-free travel from 13 countries, and adherence to a code of conduct for responsible tourism.
Mr. Manikandan Soundararajan, a UK Ph.D. Scholars, presented on Evidence-Based Policing (EBP), a transformative approach to modern law enforcement. EBP, rooted in Experimental Criminology, helps control crime by ensuring strategies are based on solid evidence. The UK's proactive approach to crime prevention involves specialized teams focused on place-oriented, tailored policing strategies. The 3T's (targeting, testing, and tracking) process ensures continuous refinement of policing methods. Soundararajan also discussed the broader societal implications of crime, introducing the SARA Model and ATLAS framework to address specific crime patterns. He emphasized the importance of robust, relevant evidence in policing decisions and building public trust in the criminal justice system.
In a thought-provoking talk on "Adaptive Policing for the Climate Crisis," Dr. Bubesh Gupta from the Universal Eco Foundation emphasized the critical importance of nature in our lives. He began by highlighting the profound connection between humans and nature, reminding us of the invaluable role that natural ecosystems play in sustaining life on Earth. Dr. Gupta expressed concern over how human activities are increasingly destroying these ecosystems, leading to a cascade of environmental crises. He also discussed the vital roles that different animals play in maintaining ecological balance, stressing that every species contributes to the health and sustainability of the planet. The talk then shifted to the role of police in disaster prevention, where Dr. Gupta explained how adaptive policing strategies can be crucial in mitigating the effects of natural disasters. He provided insights into the importance of understanding various aspects of rescue operations, even down to the types of snacks that might be necessary for sustenance during such missions. Dr. Gupta's talk underscored the need for a more environmentally conscious approach in all aspects of life, including law enforcement, to address the growing challenges posed by the climate crisis.
