A proud and eco-conscious milestone has been achieved at Rashtriya Raksha University, Puducherry Campus, as it becomes the first university in Puducherry to install Aerobins for on-campus wet waste processing, marking a significant step toward sustainability and environmental responsibility.
This initiative was inaugurated by Hon’ble Municipality Commissioner Thiru. M. Kandasamy, and guided by Ms. Gayathri Srikanth, Project Lead, The Plan Foundation, who inspired students to adopt Zero Waste living. This green project was carried out in collaboration with the Pondicherry Municipality and The Plan Foundation, and supported by Motherson SLMTT as part of its CSR initiative. Their combined efforts highlight a strong partnership between academia, local governance, and industry for a sustainable future.
The installation of Aerobins promotes source segregation and on-site composting, enabling the conversion of organic waste into nutrient-rich compost that supports the campus’s landscaping and greenery. By processing waste directly at the source, the system minimizes landfill dependency and reduces the campus’s carbon footprint.
More than just a waste management project, this initiative represents a cultural shift within the university which encourages students, faculty, and staff to embrace responsible consumption and environmental stewardship. It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12 & SDG 13), emphasizing responsible production and climate action.
With the launch of the Aerobin system, RRU Puducherry Campus proudly moves closer to becoming a #ZeroWasteCampus, setting an inspiring example for educational institutions across the region to follow. Together, we move toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable tomorrow.
