Building Emergency Readiness through Life Saving Skills Training

On 04 January 2026, three faculty members Mr. Diwakar (TCRO-PA), Mrs. Nithya (STO), and Mr. Chandramouleswer (JRAA) along with four students Athulya Kamal, Bala Karthik, and Rakesh from 1st MSc Criminology, and Aditya from 1st BCPS participated in a training programme on Basic Emergency Life Saving Skills (BELSS) at the Raksha Life Safety Training Centre, Chennai. The programme was designed to strengthen emergency preparedness by combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical demonstrations.

The training covered a comprehensive range of essential life-saving skills, including basic first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), management of choking incidents, and identification and response to heart attack and cardiac arrest. In addition, participants were trained in basic fire safety practices, fire extinguisher operation, fire mock drills, Emergency Response Team (ERT) formation, and safe transportation techniques for casualties.

This initiative follows a train-the-trainer model, wherein selected faculty members and students receive professional training and subsequently disseminate the acquired knowledge and skills within the institution. This approach aims to enhance emergency response readiness across the campus by creating a trained and responsive community.

The professionally trained team will further extend this initiative by conducting outreach training programmes for schools, colleges, and other external institutions, as well as training individuals under Project RASTA. Through this outreach-driven effort, the programme seeks to promote widespread awareness of emergency life-saving skills and strengthen community-level safety and preparedness beyond the campus.
