Pongal celebration at RRU Puducherry Campus, 2026

On 07th January, 2026, the RRU Puducherry Campus was filled with festive cheer as students, faculty, and staff came together to celebrate Pongal, one of South India’s most cherished harvest festivals. The occasion, which honors nature’s generosity and the success of the harvest, was celebrated with great joy and cultural pride.

This year’s Pongal festivities were marked by a wide range of traditional activities that captured the true spirit of the festival. A key highlight of the celebration was the preparation of the traditional Pongal dish, a delightful combination of newly harvested rice, lentils, jaggery, and spices. Students and staff enthusiastically participated in the cooking process, experiencing the joy of preparing the dish in the traditional manner. Decorated Pongal pots, adorned with turmeric leaves, were placed over open flames, and prayers were offered for prosperity, symbolizing hope for a bountiful year ahead.

The celebrations also featured several lively traditional games such as Uriyadi (pot breaking) and Tug of War. These activities added excitement to the event while encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and a strong sense of community among participants.

Throughout the day, students, faculty, and staff exchanged heartfelt Pongal wishes, strengthening the bond of unity across the campus. The event also provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage with India’s rich cultural heritage and gain a deeper understanding of the festival's significance.

Overall, the Pongal celebration at the RRU Puducherry Campus was a joyful and enriching experience. It beautifully reflected the region’s cultural traditions and brought everyone together in a shared celebration of gratitude, harmony, and abundance. The event concluded on a happy note, leaving participants with fond memories and a renewed appreciation for tradition and togetherness.
