In today’s digital era, cyber safety, especially for women, is a growing concern. To promote awareness and safe online practices, Rashtriya Raksha University, Puducherry Campus, conducted a Cyber Crime Awareness and Prevention Programme on 08 January 2026 for the students of Sabari Nursing College, Kirubamakkam, at the RRU auditorium. The programme aimed to educate participants on cyber crimes, prevention, and digital empowerment. The event began with a warm welcome address by Dr. S. Abarna, Assistant Professor at RRU-PY, who greeted the dignitaries, speakers, faculty, and students, setting the tone for the program.
Mr. Baskaran, a Retired Superintendent of Police, delivered an informative session on cybercrime awareness, highlighting the rising number of cyber offenses in today’s digital world. He explained different types of cyber crimes, such as online fraud, phishing, identity theft, cyber harassment, and misuse of personal data, especially focusing on how women are often targeted. Using real-life case examples, he emphasized the importance of being cautious when using social media, online payments, and mobile apps, and encouraged students to report cybercrimes without fear.
Dr. S. Abarna, Assistant Professor at RRU-PY, spoke about the experiences of cybercrime victims, explaining the emotional, psychological, and social impacts of such crimes. She highlighted that many victims suffer in silence due to fear and lack of awareness, and stressed the importance of empathy, support, and timely reporting. She also explained the role of Cyber Shakthi in promoting digital awareness and empowering women through training and community outreach programmes.
Mrs. P. Surya, TCRO at RRU-PY, presented practical guidance on cybercrime prevention and safe digital practices for women. She emphasized the importance of using strong passwords, setting privacy settings, making safe online transactions, and exercising caution when using social media. She also taught participants how to identify scams and suspicious links, and what steps to take if they were affected, stressing that simple precautions could prevent serious cyber threats.
As the programme drew to a close, Dr. R. Uma, Vice Principal of Sabari College of Nursing, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing her gratitude to all dignitaries, speakers, organizers, faculty, and students who contributed to the programme’s success. She especially appreciated Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) for initiating this important cyber awareness programme and extending it to Sabari Nursing College, concluding the event on a note of collaboration and commitment toward a safer digital environment.
The Cyber Crime Awareness and Online Safety Programme proved to be an informative and empowering initiative. Through the sessions led by SP Baskaran, Dr. S. Abarna, and Mrs. P. Suriya, participants gained valuable insights into cybercrimes, the experiences of victims, and practical online safety measures. The programme effectively highlighted the importance of awareness and prevention, particularly for women, and encouraged responsible and secure digital practices among all participants.
