Fire Safety Awareness Session Conducted at RRU Puducherry Campus

Rashtriya Raksha University, Puducherry campus, organized a Fire Safety Awareness programme on 26 February 2026 as part of its continued commitment to campus safety and emergency preparedness. The session was conducted by the Department of Security and Corporate Intelligence Management (SCIM) for the campus security personnel.

The awareness programme was led by Mr. Sharuhasan ShankarSubject Matter Expert, RRU-PY, and actively supported by SCIM students. The session was specially designed for campus security guards, recognizing their crucial role as frontline responders in emergency situations.

Objective of the Programme:

      • Educate campus security guards on common causes of fire, preventive measures, and early hazard identification to enhance theoretical awareness.
      • Provide an overview of different types of fire extinguishers and their appropriate applications for basic understanding.
      • Emphasize the role of security personnel in promoting preparedness and maintaining a safe campus environment.

The programme focused on educating participants about:

      • Common causes of fire such as electrical faults, flammable materials, and negligence.
      • Preventive safety measures, including regular inspections and safe storage practices.
      • Early identification of fire hazards through warning signs like smoke, unusual smells, and overheating equipment.
      • Types of fire extinguishers (Water, Foam, CO₂, and Dry Powder) and their appropriate applications.
      • The PASS technique (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) for basic extinguisher handling.

The session began with an interactive discussion where security personnel shared their experiences with fire-related incidents. This engagement created a practical learning atmosphere and encouraged knowledge exchange. Theoretical explanations were supported with demonstrations to ensure clarity and retention. The event's participants are 10 Security Guards, 1 Security Officer, 1 Field Officer, 1 Faculty Member, and 10 Students from SCIM.

The session significantly enhanced security personnel's theoretical understanding of fire prevention and early hazard detection. Participants gained a better understanding of fire extinguisher types and their safe usage. Most importantly, the programme reinforced the security staff's responsibility for maintaining a vigilant, prepared campus environment.
The Fire Safety Awareness programme strengthened the institution’s proactive safety culture by equipping frontline personnel with essential knowledge. By focusing on preparedness and prevention, the initiative contributes meaningfully to maintaining a secure and resilient campus environment.
