Rashtriya Raksha University, Puducherry Campus, conducted a week-long interactive session on Disaster Risk Assessment and Emergency Preparedness from 06 to 10 April 2026. The programme was led by Ms. Akanksha Pandey, Assistant Professor of Disaster Management and Course Coordinator of M.A./M.Sc. Disaster Management and National Security, for students of the Post Graduate Diploma in Security and Corporate Intelligence Management.
The session was designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of disaster management principles, risk assessment methodologies, and emergency preparedness strategies. Through interactive discussions and practical examples, students explored how disasters affect communities and learned the importance of proactive planning in minimizing their impact. Special emphasis was placed on disaster risk assessment and vulnerability analysis, enabling participants to understand how geographical, environmental, and infrastructural factors influence disaster susceptibility.
A significant component of the programme focused on Early Warning Systems (EWS) and emergency communication mechanisms. Students were introduced to the processes of forecasting, monitoring, warning generation, communication, and information dissemination. The session also highlighted the importance of relying on verified information from official agencies such as the India Meteorological Department and other authorized institutions during emergencies.
Beyond theoretical concepts, the programme encouraged students to develop practical preparedness and response-planning skills essential for managing crisis situations. Interactive learning activities and assignments helped reinforce key concepts and promoted critical thinking regarding disaster mitigation and emergency response. The session successfully enhanced students’ awareness, preparedness capabilities, and understanding of disaster management, equipping them with valuable knowledge to address contemporary security and emergency challenges.
