Field visit - Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Chennai

The RRU Puducherry campus organized an academic field visit to the Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Vadnalur, Chennai, for Masters 1st year and 2nd year Bachelor’s students of Criminology and Police Administration.

During the visit, Mr. Thirumalai Kozhundhu, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tamil Nadu, provided a comprehensive briefing on the history, development, and academic framework of the Tamil Nadu Police Academy. The students were also informed about the recruitment process conducted by the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB), as well as the training framework for different police cadres. The curriculum and evaluation methods for clearing training exams were discussed in detail, offering the students valuable insights into the academy's operations. Additionally, the students were given an overview of the academy's state-of-the-art infrastructure.

A particularly engaging segment of the visit was an interactive session with Administrative Deputy Director Superintendent of Police, Tamil Nadu Senthil Kumar. This session focused on various important topics such as the mental support system, stress management, salary-related concerns, and the significance of police training.

The campus tour highlighted practical training aspects, including weapon handling demonstrations and an explanation of the shooting range activities. Students were also introduced to the iconic 99 Parade Ground, where key activities take place.

Further discussions were held on the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) structure and the recruitment process for the police force. The visit concluded with an inspiring address from Madam Thenmozhi, Inspector General of Police (TNPA), who motivated the students to consider a career in policing and emphasized the critical role of law enforcement in society. She provided guidance on the pathways to enter the police services and encouraged the students to pursue their aspirations in the field. This visit provided the students with a rich and practical understanding of the police academy, its training systems, and the broader police recruitment process.
