SCIM Field visit: Sutherland

                        Rashtriya Raksha University, Puducherry Campus, embarked on an enriching industrial visit to Sutherland in Gateway Parks, Perungalathur, Chennai. Organized as part of the PGDSCIM curriculum, the visit offered a practical understanding of corporate security operations and strategies a leading IT service provider employs. The session began with an engaging introduction by Mr. Thangaraj T, Manager of Security and HSE, who introduced the team and created a welcoming environment for interaction. He then presented a detailed PowerPoint on Sutherland’s security systems, highlighting their two-tiered security model: Building Entrance Security, managed by Gateway Parks, and Floor Security, operated by Sutherland. Sutherland’s commitment to Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and certifications like ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 underlined its credibility in risk and environmental management. Following the presentation, we toured their operational spaces, including the employee-only cafeteria equipped with emergency fire blankets, stair chairs, and stretchers; secure client operation spaces with turnstile gates and biannual fire drills; a Command Center monitored through Genetec software and in-house access control systems; and the Hub Room, which is fire-preventive, hydrant-secured, and digitally records all material movements. 

This visit was an invaluable opportunity to learn how leading companies effectively manage corporate security and risk.
