On the 26th and 27th of May 2025, an insightful educational visit was organized to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Puducherry, for the students of BCPS (Bachelor of Criminology and Police Science) and MCRM (Master of Criminology). This immersive two-day visit aimed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical forensic applications.
During the visit, students were given an in-depth orientation on the various specialized divisions functioning within the laboratory. The divisions covered included:
Students learned that the processes of analyzing chemical substances, such as drugs, toxins, and other unknown compounds, were explained. Students gained insights into biological evidence processing, including DNA profiling, an essential tool in criminal investigations. This session covered the examination of handwriting, signatures, and document authenticity, crucial for fraud detection and legal validation.
The highlight of the visit was the expert orientation provided by Dr. Alagessan, Officer on Special Duty and Director of FSL, Puducherry. Dr. Alagessan shared valuable knowledge on real-time forensic practices and the evolving role of forensic science in the justice system. His detailed explanations and engaging interaction helped students connect theoretical understanding with hands-on forensic applications.
