Think Before You Click: Cyber Crime Awareness Programme at PIMS, Kalapet

Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), Puducherry Campus, organized a Cyber Crime Awareness Programme titledThink Before You Click” on 28 January 2026 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM for 200 Nursing College students at Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Kalapet (PIMS). The programme focused on Cybercrime Awareness and Healthcare Data Security, highlighting the critical role of healthcare professionals in protecting sensitive patient information in the digital age.

The interactive session addressed key issues related to patient data confidentiality, demonstrating how weak passwords, unsecured devices, unauthorized access, and phishing attempts can lead to serious data breaches. Through practical healthcare-based scenarios, students understood the legal and ethical responsibilities involved in handling medical records.

Emphasis was also placed on cyber hygiene practices, including secure handling of electronic health records, safe use of shared systems, protection against social engineering attacks, and the importance of regular updates and access controls. Recent real-time cyber incidents, such as ransomware attacks and hospital data leaks, were discussed to underline the impact of cyber threats on patient safety and institutional trust. The Principal and Programme Coordinator appreciated the initiative and noted the session's relevance and practical value for nursing students.

As part of the outreach effort, an admission awareness session introduced students to the academic programmes, specialized training, and career opportunities offered at Rashtriya Raksha University, Puducherry Campus, particularly in cybersecurity, digital forensics, and allied fields. The programme successfully reinforced the message that awareness and responsible digital practices are essential in today’s healthcare environment.
