Voting Process Demonstration at RRU, Puducherry

Rashtriya Raksha University, Puducherry Campus, organised a Voting Process Demonstration on 17.02.2026 to educate students about the practical aspects of the electoral system and strengthen their understanding of democratic participation.

The programme, conducted by the Puducherry State Election Commission, was aimed at students, particularly first-time voters, to familiarise them with the step-by-step voting procedure. The session was held under the guidance of Mrs. S. Savoundary, Deputy Collector (Election) and BDO, Ariyankuppam, who highlighted the importance of active and responsible participation in elections.

During the session, students received a comprehensive explanation of the electoral process, from voter registration to voting. Officials demonstrated the functioning of the Election Commission of India-approved Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), including the Control Unit, Ballot Unit, and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system. Participants were guided on how voter identity is verified at polling stations, the procedure for marking attendance, and the correct method of casting a vote using the ballot unit.

A mock polling setup was arranged to provide hands-on experience. Students actively participated in the simulation, which helped them understand the practical challenges and responsibilities involved in the voting process. The demonstration also clarified common doubts about invalid votes, ballot secrecy, and the security measures adopted to ensure free and fair elections.

The initiative aimed to strengthen young citizens' awareness of democratic values and electoral integrity. It encouraged students to recognise voting not only as a constitutional right but also as a civic duty. Such awareness programmes play a vital role in nurturing informed, responsible, and participative citizens who contribute positively to the nation’s democratic framework.
