The 80th Independence Day was celebrated on 15 August 2026 at Rashtriya Raksha University, Puducherry Campus, in collaboration with the Pondicherry Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (PIHMCT). The programme commenced from 07:20 am to 8.10 am with the gathering of RRU students, PIHMCT students, NCC Cadets, and staff members at the parade area. The Chief Guest, Mrs. Rita Mitra, Principal, PIHMCT, Government of Puducherry, and the Guest of Honour, Mr. John Paul Manikam, Security Leader & Adjunct Faculty, RRU Puducherry Campus, were formally received and escorted by NCC Guards. The programme included Vande Mataram, Flag Hoisting, National Anthem and March Past by RRU students, reflecting the values of patriotism, discipline and national unity. The ceremonial activities provided students with an opportunity to participate in and observe the traditions associated with national celebrations.
Mr. John Paul Manikam, Security Leader & Adjunct Faculty, RRU Puducherry Campus, delivered the Guest of Honour Address, highlighting the significance of Independence Day and the responsibilities of citizens, particularly students and young people, towards the nation. His address emphasised the values of discipline, patriotism, unity and responsible citizenship. The Chief Guest, Mrs. Rita Mitra, Principal, PIHMCT, also addressed the gathering and shared her thoughts on the significance of Independence Day and the importance of collective responsibility in building a stronger and united India.
The programme aimed to commemorate the 80th Independence Day of India and provide students and participants with an opportunity to celebrate the nation's independence, honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters and reflect upon the values of freedom, unity, discipline, patriotism and national responsibility. The programme also aimed to promote national integration, civic consciousness and a sense of responsibility towards the nation among students and participants.
The participation of students, NCC Cadets, faculty and staff created an environment of patriotic spirit and national unity. The programme provided students with meaningful exposure to ceremonial discipline, leadership, national symbols and civic responsibilities. Overall, the celebration served as an important platform for promoting patriotism, national integration, discipline, civic responsibility and awareness of national values among the university community. The programme also strengthened institutional collaboration between RRU Puducherry Campus and PIHMCT through a joint national celebration.
