The students of the Post Graduate Diploma in Security and Corporate Intelligence program visited the Sheraton Grand Chennai Resort & Spa, a luxury property on East Coast Road. The hotel features 129 rooms inspired by Sun, Sand, Sea, and South India themes and state-of-the-art amenities such as multiple restaurants, a spa, a fitness center, and facilities for hosting events and weddings.
The students were guided through the hotel's security protocols and operational excellence, including a comprehensive security check at the entrance, where vehicles were inspected and visitor passes were issued efficiently. They were then guided to the training room, strategically located near essential operational areas like the surveillance command center, finance office, HR office, and recreation hall. Assistant Director of Loss Prevention at Marriott International, Mr. Vijay Kumar, provided a detailed briefing on the evolution of security measures in the hospitality industry, emphasizing the implementation of CCTV surveillance, fire safety protocols, and detailed documentation practices as integral to hotel security. The students observed various critical safety features, such as fire alarms, sprinklers, smoke detectors, and special rooms for differently-abled guests. The hotel also showcased key life-saving equipment, such as manual call points and defibrillators, which allow quick fire alarm system activation during emergencies. The students also explored the parking area, water treatment facility, and front office operations, witnessing procedures for managing lost and found items, efficient handling of visitor registrations, and the meticulous maintenance of registers for vendors, visitors, and other activities. This insightful visit allowed the students to gain practical knowledge of integrating advanced security measures with seamless hospitality services, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications.
