On 19 December 2024, the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) of RRU Puducherry organized an insightful library visit for first-year Criminology students as part of their IASD (Information Awarness Softskills and Documentation) subject. The event also saw participation from Master's students, aimed at enhancing their research support awareness. This engaging experience was held at the Ananda Rangapillai Library, Pondicherry University, providing an opportunity for students to explore and understand the resources and facilities offered by the university library.
The session began with a detailed tour of the Ananda Rangapillai Library, which was conducted by the university library staff. Students were divided into small groups, each group visiting different sections of the library to learn more about its diverse resources. During the tour, the library staff provided valuable insights into the various facilities available, such as the digital resources, print collections, and access to journals and research databases. The university library team took the students through several sections, explaining the various support services that the library offers. From reference materials and research support to specialized facilities for students, the visit highlighted how the library plays a pivotal role in academic development. Students were able to see firsthand the resources available for their studies and research. Dr. P. Vijaya Kumar, the Assistant Librarian, led the session and ensured that students understood the significance of utilizing the library’s vast resources. His deep knowledge of library services and dedication to supporting student research was evident throughout the visit.
Library Literacy Program and Knowledge Sharing by Dr. Vijaya Kumar Mallapa
Following the tour, Dr. Vijaya Kumar Mallapa, the University Librarian, engaged with the students in an interactive session. He delivered an enriching lecture on the Library Literacy Program, which introduced students to essential tools and techniques for maximizing their use of the library. He shared his extensive knowledge, focusing on how students can enhance their research skills and make the most of the library's resources.The lecture was a great opportunity for students to understand the importance of library literacy in their academic and research journey. By the end of the session, students were more confident in utilizing the library’s support services and resources to boost their learning and research capabilities.
The library visit at Ananda Rangapillai Library was a valuable experience for RRU Puducherry students, particularly those in the Criminology program. It not only helped them understand the importance of library resources but also provided them with the tools to navigate and use these resources effectively. Thanks to the efforts of the university library staff, including Dr. Vijaya Kumar Mallapa and Dr. P. Vijaya Kumar, students walked away with a greater appreciation for the library’s role in academic success and research support.
