As part of the NSS Cyber Crime Awareness Programme, a series of consecutive awareness sessions was conducted across various schools in Puducherry with the objective of promoting safe and responsible digital practices among adolescents. The expert session talk was delivered by Ms. P. Suriya, Teaching Cum Research Officer (IT) at Rashtriya Raksha University, Puducherry Campus. The programme was organized under the theme “Click Smart, Stay Safe!”, emphasizing the importance of cyber awareness in the digital age.
Each session commenced with an introduction to Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) and its Puducherry Campus, highlighting the university’s contribution to national security education, research, and capacity building. Students were also briefed about the academic opportunities available at RRU, and course pamphlets were distributed to raise awareness about higher education pathways.
The awareness sessions reached over 350 students across five schools in Puducherry.
The programme was conducted at :
- Sri N.K.C. GGHSS, Kurusukuppam (24 December 2025)
- Sri Sankara Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School (25 December 2025)
- VOC School (26 December 2025 – Forenoon)
- Bluestar Higher Secondary School (27 December 2025 – Forenoon)
- Thanthai Periyar Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Ariyankuppam (27 December 2025 – Afternoon).
Students from Classes XI and XII actively participated with enthusiasm.
The expert sessions focused on crucial cyber awareness themes, including the digital era, social networking and its impact, cybersecurity concerns, common cyber threats, social engineering and phishing attacks, India’s cybercrime scenario, drive-by downloads, and malvertisements. Emphasis was also placed on adopting safe digital practices and taking the Cyber Safety Pledge.
The sessions received positive feedback from school authorities, teachers, and students. The interactive delivery, real-life cybercrime examples, and practical safety tips made the sessions engaging and impactful. Students actively participated by raising questions and sharing experiences, reflecting a strong understanding of cyber safety concepts.
The Cyber Crime Awareness Programme successfully fulfilled its objective of sensitizing students to cyber threats and encouraging responsible digital behaviour. Through this initiative, NSS reaffirmed its commitment to digital literacy, social responsibility, and youth empowerment.
