Learning Policing Through Real-World Exposure: Visit to Bahour Police Station

Understanding Policing and law enforcement extends beyond textbooks; the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) Puducherry Campus ensures that students gain real-world exposure alongside their academic learning. As part of this experiential learning approach, on December 11, 2025, BCPS first-year students undertook an educational field visit to the Bahour Police Station, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Shabin, AP, and Ms. Shilpa, TCRO, who actively participated in the program.

The visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to observe a police station in operation firsthand. Police officers, including Sub-Inspectors, interacted with the students and explained the routine responsibilities carried out within the station. Various sections, including investigation, criminal records, and administrative units, were introduced, providing students with a clear understanding of how coordination and accountability function within law enforcement agencies. The students were also shown the equipment and facilities used in policing and public safety operations.

A particularly engaging aspect of the visit was the sharing of real-life experiences by the police personnel. Officers narrated incidents from their service, providing students with practical insights into the challenges faced in maintaining law and order. These interactions helped students appreciate the demanding nature of police work and the dedication required to serve the community effectively.

The session was further enriched by an interactive discussion led by a Sub-Inspector of the Police. Students actively raised questions on police operations, law enforcement strategies, and emergency management. The Inspector openly discussed the realities of police administration, including manpower limitations, resource management, and the complexities involved in handling critical situations. This open dialogue enabled students to connect theoretical concepts with practical realities.

The field visit to the Bahour Police Station proved to be a meaningful learning experience, deepening students’ understanding of policing and public service. Such initiatives reflect RRU Puducherry Campus’s commitment to nurturing informed, responsible, and practice-oriented learners who are prepared to contribute effectively to the fields of security and public administration.
