RAKSHARAMBH-2026: Orientation-cum-Induction Programme (Day 3)

As part of RAKSHARAMBH ’26, the Orientation-cum-Induction Programme for the Academic Batch 2026–2027, RRU Puducherry Campus conducted Day 3 of the programme with a series of informative and engaging sessions focused on policing, criminology and life safety.

Session I, “Honouring the Recipients of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service,” held from 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM. The session featured Dr. S. Bascarene, Adjunct Faculty, RRU and Superintendent of Police (Retd.), Puducherry Police, and Mr. S. Anandhan Sakthivel, Sub-Inspector, SIGMA Security, Puducherry Police. During the session, Dr. Bascarene spoke about the importance of cyber security, network security, and common cyber threats, highlighting the growing significance of security awareness in the digital era. He also shared insights from his policing experience and emphasized the values of dedication, integrity, and commitment in public service. The session highlighted how these qualities contribute to distinguished service in policing and encouraged students to develop a strong sense of responsibility, discipline, and professional ethics in their future careers. 

Session II, titled “The Criminologist’s Journey: From Education to Practices,” was conducted from 12:00 PM to 1:15 PM and was led by Dr. P. Madhava Soma Sundaram, Founder and Former Head, Department of Criminology, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, and Chairperson, ISC. The session explored various theories of crime, including Actor-Network Theory and Platform Society Theory, along with contemporary issues such as algorithmic bias. Dr. Madhava discussed the professional journey of a criminologist, highlighting the scope of the field and its practical dimensions. The session helped students understand how criminological theories and academic knowledge can be connected with professional practice and emerging challenges in the field.

Session III, titled “First Response Matters: A hands-on life safety session,” was held from 2:30 PM to 3:45 PM. The session featured Mr. R. Srinivasan, Trainer & Projects Manager, ALERT – Puducherry; Mr. T. Anandkumar, Co-Trainer & Executive Secretary, ALERT – Puducherry; and Rtn. Mr. Rajesaragane, Board Member, ALERT – Puducherry. The session focused on the importance of first response and life safety, providing students with valuable awareness related to responding effectively during emergency situations.

The Day 3 sessions offered the students a diverse learning experience by connecting police service, criminology education and practical life-safety skills. Through interactions with experienced professionals and resource persons, the programme provided the Academic Batch 2026–2027 with meaningful exposure beyond the classroom and contributed to their orientation towards their academic and professional journey at RRU Puducherry.
